The finger flexor stretch is a bodyweight mobility move that lengthens the finger flexors and wrist flexors of the forearm (flexor digitorum and the muscles on the underside of the forearm). It eases tightness from gripping, typing, and lifting, and is a useful warm-up or cool-down for anyone who trains grip or works with their hands.
Finger Flexor Stretch: So führst du sie aus
- 1Stand or sit tall and extend one arm straight out in front of you at about shoulder height, palm facing forward as if signalling stop.
- 2Keep that elbow fully straight and your fingers together, pointing toward the ceiling.
- 3Reach across with your other hand and gently grip the fingers and palm of the outstretched hand.
- 4Pull your fingers back toward your body until you feel a stretch along the palm side of your forearm.
- 5Keep your shoulder relaxed and avoid letting the stretched arm bend or rotate.
- 6Hold the position for 20 to 30 seconds, breathing steadily and easing deeper only as the muscle relaxes.
- 7Release slowly, shake out the hand, then repeat on the other arm.
Technik-Tipps
- Keep the elbow of the stretched arm fully locked out — a bent elbow takes the tension off the forearm flexors.
- Spread your fingers slightly and draw the whole hand back, not just the fingertips, to spread the stretch across the forearm.
- Increase the stretch gradually; ease into it rather than yanking the hand, since the wrist and finger tendons are delicate.
- Pair it with a wrist extensor stretch (palm pushed the other way) to balance both sides of the forearm.
Häufige Fehler
- Bending the elbow during the stretch, which slackens the forearm flexors so you feel little to nothing.
- Pulling the fingers back too hard or too fast, which can strain the wrist and finger tendons instead of stretching them.
- Hunching the shoulder up toward the ear, which adds neck and shoulder tension and distracts from the target stretch.
- Holding your breath and tensing the arm, which keeps the muscle guarded and limits how far it will lengthen.
Häufig gestellte Fragen
What muscles does the finger flexor stretch work?
It stretches the finger flexors and wrist flexors on the underside of the forearm — the flexor digitorum and related muscles that close the hand and bend the wrist.
Where should I feel the finger flexor stretch?
You should feel it along the palm side of your forearm, from the inner wrist up toward the elbow. If you only feel it in the fingers or wrist joint, ease off and keep the elbow straight.
How long should I hold the finger flexor stretch?
Hold each side for 20 to 30 seconds and repeat two to three times per arm. Stretch gently and never to the point of sharp pain.
Is the finger flexor stretch good for grip or wrist tightness?
Yes. It helps relieve forearm tightness from heavy gripping, deadlifts, pull-ups, or long hours of typing, and works well as a warm-up or cool-down for the hands and forearms.
