- 1Adjust the machine so the hip pad sits just below your hip bones, leaving your upper body free to hinge forward.

- 3Cross your arms over your chest or place your hands lightly behind your head.
- 4From an upright position, hinge at the hips and lower your torso in a controlled arc until your back is roughly parallel to the floor — or slightly below if your flexibility allows.
- 5Pause briefly at the bottom without rounding your lower back excessively.
- 6Squeeze your erector spinae and glutes to extend your hips and raise your torso back to the starting upright position.
- 7Stop when your body forms a straight line from head to heel — do not hyperextend beyond neutral.

- Keep your spine neutral throughout the movement — a slight natural arch at the top is fine, but avoid jamming your lower back into extension past a straight line.
- Move slowly and deliberately on the way down (2–3 seconds) to build tension in the erectors rather than using momentum.
- Exhale as you rise back to the top and inhale on the way down to maintain intra-abdominal pressure and protect your spine.
- If you feel pinching or discomfort in your lumbar spine at the top, reduce your range of motion and stop at neutral rather than pushing into hyperextension.
Errores comunes
- Hyperextending at the top of the rep — arching forcefully past a neutral spine compresses the lumbar vertebrae and increases injury risk. Stop when your torso is in line with your legs.
- Using momentum to swing the torso up, which reduces erector engagement and puts sudden load on passive spinal structures.
- Rounding the lower back at the bottom of the rep, which places the lumbar discs under flexion load while the muscles are lengthened — a common cause of strain.
- Setting the hip pad too high, which blocks the hips from hinging properly and transfers the load away from the lower back.
- Holding the neck in forced extension (chin jutting up) instead of keeping it in line with the spine, which strains the cervical vertebrae.
